Gamer of the Fourth Quarter Bounty Challenge

bounty-gamer-of-the-quarter

Video Game Scoreboard is pleased to announce the Fourth Quarter Gamer of the Quarter Competition for 2014.  For this competition, we have teamed up with Dave Vogt and his indie PC Game, The Bounty.

The Fourth Quarter game challenge is on The Bounty. This competition will be playable on any PC which can play the game.  Please see the rules below for full disclosure on the competition..

The Bounty is a retro-inspired, competitive RPG, with an East meets West approach, deviously combined with an arcade high score sensibility. An experience that will challenge your wits as you push to survive, uncover a multitude of secrets, and earn the high score.  It is playable only on PC at this time.

For this competition, we will be featuring and allowing records to be set on the Single Life (Purist) Variation, where you score attempt ends when you hit Game Over and you are allowed no saves.  We will be announcing one new variation a week on this game, but for the purpose of this contest, you must compete on the Single Life Variation.

The Rules:

  1. This competition runs from Oct. 14 to Dec. 31. The August winners will be announced once all scores are verified and places tallied.
  2. Players must submit a recording of their high score attempt on The Bounty.
  3. Players may compete on the systems listed below. They may ONLY compete on The Bounty – Single Life (Purist) Variation.
  4. Recording rules must be followed. Rules can be found here.  For the sake of PC, streaming must show start screen, launching a new game and play from there.  Players are allowed to do multiple attempts in a single recording/stream, but must tell us where the attempt they are submitting to us starts at via timestamp. Failure to follow the rules disqualifies the entry.
  5. Pausing is not allowed.
  6. Players may submit in any of the ways we accept, however, if you are mailing submissions in, please be sure to have them postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2014.

The Bounty Challenge Objective is to see who can achieve the highest score on the Bounty with 1 life and no saving the game.  You can use any and all perks and bonuses earned while playing the game.  You may NOT stall intentionally timed events.  You may NOT refer to any guides, online wikis, friends or any other help of any sort.

You may record your screen play, and voice if you choose to do so, using any number of programs or a video camera during play.

Recording must begin at title screen and must run continuously through any attempt.

Gamer must disclose what version of Windows they are playing on.

Systems Tracked:

  • Any PC the game is playable on.

The Gamer of the Quarter will receive:

  • VGS T-Shirt

Gamer of the Month Changes to Gamer of the Quarter

SONY DSCAfter a lot of discussion amongst our staff and a group of gamers, we have decided after a year of doing Gamer of the Month’s to change it to Gamer of the Quarter.

Gamer of the Quarter allows for players who may not have time to compete in the short time limit to record and submit their scores.  We also hope that it will allow for more participation as well.

That being said, we decided to extend the July Gamer of the Month into the 3rd Quarter 2014 Gamer of the Month Challenge.  We will be updating the rules for the contest soon, but if you were wanting to enter in the Alpha Wave Challenge, you still have an opportunity to do so.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them in reply to this post, via email or on our forums.

We thank you for your understanding and hope others look forward to the change in schedule for Gamer of the Quarter as we are.

The Gamer of the Month for the month of June goes to Craig Rout Gallant with a final score of 914,950.

We saw a lot of great competition with this title and hope that others compete on it now that it’s past the Gamer of the Month title as well.

Think you can beat this score? Check out our rules on our How to Submit page, record your game(s) and submit it to us.

July 2014 Alpha Gamer of the Month Challenge

July-2014-Gamer-of-the-month-alpha-waveVideo Game Scoreboard is pleased to announce the July Gamer of the Month Competition for 2014.  For this competition, we have teamed up with the Wikipad team to provide additional prizes for the competition.

The July game challenge is on Alpha Wave. This competition will be open on all Android platforms.  Please see the rules below for full disclosure of the rules.

Alpha Wave is a fast moving shooter-style game, like Asteroids and Space Invaders, that has your ship at the bottom of the screen and you have to move it left and right to destroy the various items raining down on you – whether it be space debris, asteroids, UFOs, weapons firing at you, etc. It can be played on any Android device, including the Wikipad.

For this competition, you can play on either Alpha Wave Lite, which is the free version and limits you to the level we are competing on, or on Alpha Wave, which is the full version of the game.  Other than having other levels available for play, there is no gameplay difference between Alpha Wave Lite or Alpha Wave.  You will be playing on Hard difficulty for Stonewall.

The Rules:

  1. This month’s competition runs from July 1 to August 15. The July winners will be announced once all scores are verified and places tallied.
  2. Players must submit a recording of their high score attempt on Alpha Wave.
  3. Players may compete on the systems listed below. They may ONLY compete on Alpha Wave – Most Points by Death or End of Stonewall. For the purpose of the competition, a combined scoreboard will show the ranks of all players competing together.
  4. Recording rules must be followed. Rules can be found below. Failure to follow the rules disqualifies the entry.
  5. Pausing is not allowed.
  6. Players may submit in any of the ways we accept, however, if you are mailing submissions in, please be sure to have them postmarked no later than August 10, 2014, so we can receive them in time for the August 15 deadline.

The July Alpha Challenge Objective is to see who can achieve by completion of 65 levels or death and destruction of their spaceship  the most points accumulated on the Hard difficulty level for Stonewall.  You can use any and all bonuses earned while playing during that game.  There is no limit on the number of times you can use the Weapon’s Hyper Ability or the Singularity bomb.

To remind everyone, the screen you are playing on must be visible at all times while you are playing the game.  You can watch this video example from John Pompa which shows how he recorded Fix It Felix.  The same would apply here.

Please note:  You must show boot up of your Android Device from turning it on and the load screen to showing boot up of the game, level selection, etc. for it to be a valid score.  Once you show this, as long as you don’t stop recording, you may record as many attempts as you like.  However, if you stop recording, you must re-show the bootup process.  If you record multiple attempts, please remember to make a note of where your record attempt begins after the bootup sequence.

Systems Tracked:

  • Android Tablet, sans Wikipad
  • Android Phone
  • Android Table with Wikipad
  • NVIDIA Shield
  • If there is an Android Device you want to compete on and it’s not listed, please message us.

* Note gamer must specify which system that he/she is competing on and show full video from beginning to end.

The Gamer of the Month will receive:

  • VGS T-Shirt
  • Interview for Gamer Profile
  • Named Gamer of the Month for that Month
  • Competes at end of year Gamer of the year Tournament

In addition Wikipad will be providing additional prizes for the contest, to be announced.

If you would like to stream your attempts, let us know and we will feature them on our forums.

And the February Gamer of the Month is…

nullWe’ve had this score verified a while, but didn’t have enough time to sit down and write articles to go with it – which is why you’re seeing a bunch of articles now that should have been announced a month or so back.  But, as we all know, life happens and it’s better late than never.

February’s game challenge was on SSX Tricky.  The February Winter Challenge Objective in this game will be to complete a single event course in the fastest possible time. Choose any character you wish to use. The course that we picked is: Elysium Alps, France.

Congratulations to Ryan Sullivan who achieved a time of 0:05:17:73 via the Playstation 2 and won the challenge.

As Video Game Scoreboard’s Gamer of the Month, Ryan receives:

  • VGS T-Shirt
  • Interview for Gamer Profile
  • Named Gamer of the Month for that Month
  • Competes at end of year Gamer of the year Tournament (postponed till end of 2014).
  • Interviewed for a profile article on Obsolete Gamer.

Interested in being a gamer of the month? The June Game of the Month Challenge will be announced shortly.
